Island Gypsy History

The "Island Gypsy" name was created in 1975 when the Halvorsens, a distinguished Australian family with a boat building tradition since 1887, formed a joint venture in Hong Kong  to design, build and market a new range of pleasure boats worldwide. The Halvorsen family business was instrumental in designing the very first and all subsequent models of this now famous line of crafts ranging from 30' to 80'.

By the early 80's, production had been moved across the border to Southern mainland China and to the present day, over 900 "Island Gypsy" boats have been built and exported to every corner of the world. Today, this traditional design is recognized as the Eurosedan series, which best exemplified the
classic lines and nautical feelings of "Island Gypsy" designs.

I
n 1997, the Solo series, a long range trawler model, was introduced into this fine yacht family. Designed as a combination of rugged seaworthy design with "Island Gypsy's' attention to details, the Solo series perfectly meets the needs for longer range boating adventures.

Soon, the Gourmet Cruiser series was created. This lobster type yacht melded the theme of beauty and classic styling with efficient performance, delivering an experience that is much more than just a picnic cruiser. Both of these series have been highly praised and welcomed by the market.
